Official country name: Republic of the Congo.
Etymology: Named for the Congo River, which makes up much of the country's eastern border.
The river name derives from Kongo, a Bantu kingdom that occupied its mouth at the time of Portuguese discovery in the late 15th century and whose name stems from its people the Bakongo, meaning "hunters".

- Roughly half of the population belongs to one of the Kongo tribes and nearly 70% of the population lives in urban areas.
- Of all the Congo tribes, the most famous are the pygmies, known for their smaller stature. The pygmies are spread across the Congo Basin from the Congo, Rwanda, Uganda, DRC, the Central African Republic and Cameroon have been marginalised by other tribes.
- Republic of the Congo is a different country from its neighbor the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which is often referred to by its acronym the DRC.
- Congo is famous for its wildlife, especially primates, among which chimpanzees and lowland gorillas. Ulike other countries in Africa, tourism infrastructure, especially safaris, is underdeveloped, so wildlife viewing is harders and rarer.

- The level of experience traveling solo of the reviewer (beginner = <5 trips solo, Intermediate = 5 to 10 trips solo, Experienced = >10 trips solo).

- The date they were posted.
The safety scores range from 1 to 4 with 1 being the safest and 4 being the most dangerous for solo female travelers.
