Greek objection to the new country’s name, insisting it implied territorial pretensions to the northern Greek province of Macedonia, and democratic backsliding for several years, stalled the country’s movement toward Euro-Atlantic integration.

- North Macedonia is home to the megalithic observatory of Kokino. Also known as the “Macedonian Stonehenge”, the archeo-astronomical site is over 4,000 years old. It's listed by NASA as the fourth oldest ancient observatory in the world.

- The “Warrior on a Horse” statue is a famous landmark in Skopje. It's believed to depict Alexander the Great. It's 28 meters high and it weighs around 30,000 kilograms.

- North Macedonia has one of the world’s largest crosses. The Millennium Cross sits on top of Mt Vodno and is 66 meters high.
