Interesting facts about Somalia

- Somalia is the easternmost country of Africa, located on what is commonly referred to as the Horn of Africa. A third of the country, the region of Somaliland, declared independence in 1991 but has not been fully recognised by all countries.

- Somalia has been going through humanitarian and security instability for decades, most recently as a result of links with Al-Qaeda linked Al-Shabab.

- England’s first female Muslim football referee, Jawahir Roble, is from Somalia.

- Injera is a traditional bread in Somalia and Ethiopia. This typical food consists of a spongy flatbread that is usually topped with meat and vegetable curries.

- A key part of Somali culture is the camel. Camels provide milk, transportation, income and status for owners. Camel meat is also a delicacy in Somali cuisine. You

- Somaliland is home to the prehistoric rock painting of Laas Geel dating back 5,000 years.
